Lionel and Liz explain the  CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) instrument with bottles attached for collecting water at various depths. Niki shows us the temperature profile after the CTD is hauled up.

This looks like a great bit of kit, but are they collecting anything like enough samples to get meaningful results about the whole of the Southern Ocean operating system?
Lionel makes the point that we know next to nothing once you get below the surface. Will we hear more about what's needed in the film?
