To celebrate science and society, the conference will be preceded by a gala public screening on Friday 4 April at 6 pm of the documentary Thin Ice, by 2013 NZAS Science Communication awardee, Dr Simon Lamb. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr Lamb, Prof Shaun Hendy and Dr Siouxsie Wiles on the importance of communicating science. Panel chair is Peter Griffin, NZ Science Media Centre
