Brian began work as a technician with Ecology Division, DSIR,in  the 1980s  investigating the food habits of feral cats in New Zealand’s forests and offshore islands with particular interest in their effects on the native fauna . His work continues in forest ecology on a variety of projects. One of these has been for the last 22 years  helping in the field  monitoring of Adelie penguins, their foraging, diet and movements in relation to the annual sea ice cycle around Ross Island and the Victoria Land coast.
